Tell us about your business:
As an estate planning business our objective is to protect the wealth that you accumulate during your lifetime and maximise inheritance for your children/grandchildren and/or loved ones. Our work involves mitigating disinheritance risks, where assets can pass to the taxman, local authority or down the wrong bloodline to others instead of to your bloodline/loved ones, including:
- Inheritance Tax
- Sideways Disinheritance
- Long-term care fees
- Probate fees and delays
Through the careful use of Wills and trusts we can protect people from the risks associated with death, ensuring your estate goes to the right people, at the right time and in the right way.
What services do you offer to support customers who are dealing with legal issues, or are facing bereavement?
We are a very experienced and highly qualified Will writing and estate planning team. Above all else, we pride ourselves in offering a professional but user-friendly service, delivered in plain English. Because of our experience and qualifications, we can provide the best possible guidance and advice in relation to all aspects of estate planning and an empathetic service, including an initial free help/guidance meeting, when facing bereavement.
Describe a situation that was particularly challenging for a client, and how you helped them through this difficulty?
We were approached by a client who had been diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening illness. He was married with two young children and had a successful business. Through the Will we managed to take the necessary steps to protect his house should he pass away, look to structure the Will and Will Trusts to manage Inheritance Tax, to a degree, and make sure his children were provided for appropriately and do not receive a substantial inheritance at a very young age. He also wanted his wealth wrapped up in Discretionary Trusts to protect it from potential threats. We were able to maximise the children’s inheritance, protect his spouse initially and the children’s long-term interests. We also ensured Lasting Powers of Attorney are in place and registered, so that someone he trusts can make decisions should he lose the mental capacity to be able to make decisions in the future. Without this, it could take 9-12 months and cost thousands in legal fees and he would have run the risk of having someone he’s never met, who doesn’t even know him or what he would have wanted, making decisions on his behalf, whilst charging hundreds of pounds per hour to do so.
What are the benefits to customers of Adroit for using your business?
We offer a face-to-face service and are one of few Will writers to have a client charter that ensures we are bound by the strictest levels of service. We don’t just send our clients documents to sign; we hold face-to-face meetings where we explain everything in plain English to ensure clients understand and are happy with documents. We then supervise the signing and witnessing of the Wills and Powers of Attorney so they are valid legal documents.
What three words would describe your customer service and approach?
Professional, friendly and plain English.
